I was born in a time when there were very few TV sets. Color TV sets more rarer.
When we bought our first TV, a color TV, it was to watch Indira Gandhi’s funeral procession. The whole neighborhood came to watch. Our living room was full of people, women mostly, some men, and excited children. I sat in a corner, on my mom’s lap, watching in awe as the TV spun its magic.
But now, let me tell you, things are wildly different. We’ve entered the era of Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar. It’s like TV on steroids, but in a good way!
Back then, we were stuck with a handful of channels and had to wait for specific times to watch our favorite shows. Now? Forget that! With OTT, I’m the boss. I pick what I want to watch, when I want to watch it. No more waiting around for the show to start—I start it whenever I feel like it.
And let’s talk about binge-watching. Remember waiting a whole week for the next episode? Nah, now I can plow through entire seasons in one sitting. It’s a whole new level of entertainment immersion.
Plus, thanks to smart TVs, tablets, and smartphones, I’m not tied down to the living room anymore. I can watch my stuff on the go—commuting, traveling, or just chilling at home. The world is my TV screen!
One cool thing about OTT is how it’s opened doors for all kinds of creators. You don’t need a big network to get your story out there anymore. Independent filmmakers and storytellers can reach audiences worldwide, sharing unique perspectives and shaking up the old-school TV norms.
In a nutshell, TV has gone from a communal, scheduled experience to a personalized, anytime-you-want-it adventure. And as technology keeps evolving, who knows what’s next? But one thing’s for sure—TV isn’t what it used to be, and that’s a good thing. Here’s to embracing the streaming revolution and all the binge-worthy shows it brings!
